How can I keep my costs low and still get a great video?
As we teach in our Video ROI mini-course, a big part of creating a profitable video is balancing quality with costs. While every video we create looks amazing, you don’t always need a major production to achieve your goals.
Sometimes, all you need is a professional-looking video with a tight message. Simpler videos tend to work best at the top and bottom of your marketing funnel, when you’re simply building relationships with helpful content, or overcoming resistance to the sale.
But in the middle of the funnel, when you’re introducing and building value around your product or service, your videos need to be more engaging and emotional to persuade your viewer’s to buy. They need hook your prospects and make your solution a pressing priority.
So as an ROI-focused company, we’ll advise you when it makes sense to create a more creative video, as well as when it makes sense to keep it simple.
What if my team isn’t good on camera?
Fortunately, you have lots of options!
We can always create videos that don’t feature a person on camera. In those cases, we’ll hire a professional voice actor or actress to deliver your message and use animation or B-roll to tell the visual story.
However, there are many situations where having one or more team members on camera delivers the best results for the price. In those cases, it may help to understand our quality control measures…
For example, we always use a teleprompter, so you won’t have to think about what to say, just how to say it. Your producer on-set will coach you through the delivery until each line is delivered conversationally and with the right tone.
And to ensure you look like a pro, we use multiple camera angles so that our editors can piece together all the best shots in post-production. Think about it like this — if we can tell a powerful story working with kids, we can do it for you!
What’s the creative process like?
At WireBuzz, every project starts with strategy…
So our first step is to perform a discovery call with your team, which enables us to make smart recommendations about topics, creative concepts, messaging, and your video promotion strategy.
Once we have that blueprint, our creative team and scriptwriters will work with you to develop a specific message and creative vision for your video.
As soon as we’re aligned, our scriptwriter will pull together a “concept draft” that includes the script and a verbal storyboard, which describes in words the actions that will take place on screen.
If it’s your first project with us, we always deliver the initial concept draft on a live call or in-person. That way we can explain the strategy and read it like a voice actor would. Our goal for concept drafts is to be 80% of the way “there.”
You and your team can either deliver live feedback, or regroup internally to pull together feedback for the first revision. All our projects include two rounds of revisions, or three total scripts.
If your project requires any sophisticated animation work or professional talent, we’ll also begin sharing samples to ensure we’re aligned before making the hand-off to our post-production team.
We then repeat a similar process during post-production, except instead of scripts, we’re revising your videos.
By building in a multi-step revision process, we’re able to consistently deliver high-quality videos your entire company will love.
Do we get storyboards?
It can be very easy to write yourself into a creative corner, which is why WireBuzz always provides verbal storyboards. More like a shot list, really. We’ve discovered that this usually saves everyone time and money. And we’ve also never had a client who was unhappy with our final work.
There are other times, however, when storyboarding is absolutely necessary. For example, when we’re building sophisticated animations or telling complex stories. The extra time we spend with you in pre-production will ensure you get a video you love. Plus, it saves time during the revision process. It’s a win-win.
Simply put, we use ’em when we need ’em. But we won’t nickel and dime you for unnecessary work.
What is the turnaround time on a video project?
Our typical turnaround time for a video project is 5-7 weeks from contract to final video. That builds in time for your team to compile feedback and revisions, so we can work faster if your team is responsive during the process.
How much time will my team need to invest in the project?
It varies based on the client and scope of the project. Simple productions, such as testimonials, won’t take much of your time at all, thanks to your project manager. Just tell us who to reach out to and we can handle the details for you.
On the other hand, you may need to be more hands-on for something like an explainer video that’s going to live front-and-center on your home page. We’ve even worked with committees for projects like this!
All that said, we will typically only need you for an hour or two before we write the first script. Then another hour or two for each stage of revisions. You can expect about the same during post-production. So that’s roughly 7-14 hours over the course of 5-7 weeks.
Do you hire freelancers?
Visit our About page to meet our team. Those are the people who’ll be leading your project. On rare occasions, we’ll hire freelancers we trust to support, but never replace, our in-house team on a shoot.
By working with an award-winning crew that’s been making videos together since elementary school (seriously), you get peace of mind knowing that we’re not risking your project on a sub-contractor. Quality control is important to us, because we know it’s important to you.
What if I need revisions?
Revisions are built into our workflow to ensure you get a video that looks and performs great. We provide 2 rounds of revisions to both your scripts, as well as your video. That’s 3 total rounds of scripting and 3 total rounds of editing.
In 2016, WireBuzz produced over 1,000 videos for our clients. We’ve only needed more than that a handful of times. But when it does happen, we’ll provide an estimate and bill you at an hourly rate of $150.
And if you suspect that your organization is going to need more layers of scrutiny than our typical client, we can always budget your videos with extra revisions built-in. We hate nickel-and-diming, so we try to keep it simple.
As for revisions to previous video projects, we’re more than happy to provide an estimate and update your videos for you.
